This week on Wednesday our staff returned back to school. It has been nice to be together, working hard and planning to provide your children an improved remote learning experience. This afternoon you should receive a communication from your child's remote learning teacher including details about the daily schedule that will begin next week.
Please remember, school for grades 1 - 5 begins on Monday, August 17, and school for kindergarteners begins on Wednesday, August 19. The school day begins at 9:00. For afternoon kindergarten, the day begins at 1:00. Last week you all should have received remote learning supply lists. If you have any questions about those, please contact your child's remote learning teacher. Kindergarten parents, Mrs. Nielsen will contact you to schedule a device and materials pickup for next Monday and Tuesday.
Next week you will receive more information from the teachers about the distribution and parent pickup of student materials that they can use at home for remote learning. In addition, you will also receive notice of a parent information Zoom session with your child's remote learning teacher(s). Please stay tuned for those communications coming to you from the teachers sometime next week.
I wanted to welcome Bailey Stearns, who will be teaching grade 2 this year, and San Hurwitz, who will be teaching grade 5. We are excited to welcome them to our staff! Also, I wanted to share my appreciation for Susie Turner, who has retired effective this school year. She dedicated many years to D62 and Terrace to preparing her students for life in the middle school, and she will be missed by our staff. We wish her all the best in the years to come.
If your family needs any support acquiring school supplies for remote learning or if you are in need of a wifi hotspot, please contact our office, and we will do our best to assist you.
A special thank you to our wonderful PTC, who welcomed staff back on Wednesday with morning treats and individually-bagged lunches from Panera. We appreciate our partnership with you, and we were touched by your generosity.
Stay safe, and stay healthy.
