This week we were all informed of the adaptive pause our district will be taking from in-person learning until mid-January, so next week will be our final week of in-person learning until then. Starting November 30, students will go back to full remote learning. Please understand that these decisions do not come lightly, and they are made with the safety and well-being of every student and staff at heart. Given this pivot, Terrace staff will be ready to go back to remote teaching with the same level of rigor and the same expectations as we had at the beginning of the school year. I want to thank you up front for your patience and understanding as we navigate these unprecedented times together as a community. Please remember, we are here for you and your families if you need us. If you need a wifi hotspot or cold-weather apparel such as coats, gloves, etc., please let us know.
Don't forget that there is no school next Monday, November 16, as it is a teacher planning day.
Stay safe and healthy this weekend!
PLEASE READ THESE OTHER IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
PTC Terrace Toyland:
This year, PTC will host a virtual Terrace Toyland. It will run from November 23 to December 04. Please go to https://1516010.holidaytreasures.com in order to shop. That link will be active beginning on November 23.
Materials Pickup:
On Thursday and Friday, November 19-20, we will have our next materials pickup. Your teachers will send you reminders when these dates get closer. If you cannot make one of the timeframes listed below, we will do our best to work with you. Please contact your child's teacher(s) or the main office to arrange an alternative time. Please see the information below for your planning:
- Schedule
- November 19 - Grades K-2 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
- November 20 - Grades 3- 5 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
- Procedures
- Families will pull up in the front circle in their cars. Please do not walk-up to the building.
- Cars should have signs with student names and teacher names clearly visible for staff to see easily.
- Staff will bring new materials to car and collect prior materials along with the bags you initially received.
- For families with multiple students, you can pick up materials on one day. That day will be the day you pick up for the youngest sibling.
Remote Learning Tips:
- Prepare a quiet learning space to support your child’s focus on school.
- Organize learning materials to ensure they are easily accessible for your child.
- Post your child’s daily schedule in an easily viewable section of their quiet learning space.
- Always encourage your child to do their best in everything in which they are engaged.
- Ask for help from the teacher if your child needs more support to learn.
- Ensure your child maintains a respectful and kind demeanor with their teachers and peers every day.
Breakfast and Lunch:
For students who are retuning to school for in-person learning:
- All students will receive meals free of charge through December of 2020. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) changed the guidelines regarding school meals for the reminder of 2020. If you send your child to school and want them to have breakfast or lunch, they may do so free of charge through the end of the calendar year.
- We are awaiting the guidelines on meal service starting in January of 2021. Families whose students are not on the free and reduced lunch program may need to resume paying for their meals starting in January. More information will be communicated to you about this once it becomes available.
D62 Technology:
The District Technology Department is pleased to announce they have expanded their technology support hours into the evenings on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Families are encouraged to email [email protected] during this time or call the tech helpline at 847-824-8115 and leave a message to generate a help desk ticket. A member of the technology team will answer help desk tickets in the order they are received during the evening support hours.
